Methyl Methacrylate (MMA)

When you need a tough floor with a fast turnaround, we can utilize Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) coatings as part of an overall system in order to speed up the coating installation process. MMAs cure very rapidly, even in low temperatures, so we can get you back in business within as little as a day depending on the scope of the job.

System Overview

Components of MMA flooring system

01

Concrete Prep & Patching

We begin by industrial diamond grinding the concrete to a CSP 3 surface profile, ensuring optimal conditions for maximum epoxy mechanical bonding. This meticulous surface preparation is crucial for the long-term durability of the MMA system. We employ Terrco industrial grinders, renowned for their superior performance and industry-leading quality.

03

Broadcast: Aggregate Sand or Acrylic Flakes

The aggregate or flake broadcast layer is applied over the wet primer to provide texture, slip resistance, and aesthetic appeal. These materials are scattered evenly across the surface, embedding into the primer and creating a decorative, yet functional, finish that can withstand heavy traffic and wear.

02

MMA Primer

Next, a layer of MMA primer is then applied to the prepped concrete. The MMA primer serves as the foundational layer in the epoxy system, ensuring a strong adhesion between the substrate and the subsequent layers. It penetrates the surface, filling in any micro-porosities and creating a uniform base that enhances the overall durability and performance of the flooring system.

04

MMA Top Coat

The MMA topcoat is the final layer that encapsulates the aggregate or flake broadcast, sealing the system and providing a smooth, glossy finish. This topcoat offers excellent chemical resistance, UV stability, and abrasion protection, ensuring long-lasting performance and easy maintenance for the flooring system.

SYSTEM CHARACTERISTICS

QUICK TURNAROUND/RETURN TO SERVICE

One of the most significant benefits of Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) epoxy floor systems is their rapid cure time. MMA floors can fully cure within just one to two hours after application, allowing facilities to minimize downtime and quickly return to normal operations. This fast curing process is particularly advantageous in settings where operational interruptions need to be minimized, such as in industrial plants, commercial kitchens, and healthcare facilities. The quick turnaround not only reduces labor costs but also enhances overall productivity.

DURABILITY

MMA epoxy floor systems are known for their extreme durability and resilience. These floors are highly resistant to mechanical stress, impact, and abrasion, making them ideal for high-traffic areas and environments subjected to heavy machinery. The robust nature of MMA floors ensures long-lasting performance, reducing the need for frequent repairs or replacements. This durability makes them a cost-effective solution for facilities requiring a flooring system that can withstand harsh conditions and maintain its integrity over time.

URINE & CHEMICAL RESISTANT

Methyl methacrylate (MMA) epoxy systems are highly resistant to urine, making them an excellent choice for environments where exposure to urine is common, such as bathrooms, veterinary clinics, and animal shelters. Their chemical composition ensures a strong bond and a durable, impermeable surface that prevents the penetration and absorption of urine. This resistance helps maintain the flooring's integrity and appearance while preventing unpleasant odors and stains. Additionally, MMA epoxy systems are easy to clean and sanitize, contributing to a hygienic and safe environment.
